A Moharli-cluster gate with an unusually dense network of forest waterholes — which is the single strongest predictor of concentrated tiger activity in the peak dry months.
From October onwards, the small forest waterholes across Chandrapur's buffer start doing the sorting for you. Animals concentrate where the water hasn't dried up yet — and predators concentrate where the animals are. Devada holds one of the densest small-waterhole networks in the Moharli buffer, which is why it consistently outperforms adjacent gates in April and May.
The gate is around 50 km from Chandrapur, roughly 165 km from Nagpur. Terrain is mixed forest — teak, bamboo patches, and low undergrowth — with the waterhole network threading through it. If you're planning a trip during the March-to-June sighting peak, Devada is often the sharper single-safari pick from the Moharli cluster.
Concentrates herbivore movement predictably from October to June. Wherever the last water is, that's where the drives should hold.
In April-May, when core-zone photographers are chasing distant sightings, Devada's waterhole geometry keeps action close to the tracks.

Sighting probability is a function of heat and water. As Chandrapur dries out, tigers concentrate at fewer waterholes, and the buffer's smaller water sources make sightings around them more reliable than in the rain-fed core.

Morning safari. Pickup from your Chandrapur or Moharli-area stay 45 minutes before gate opening. Devada gate opens with sunrise — around 6:00 AM in winter, closer to 5:30 in summer. The drive lasts approximately 3 to 3.5 hours, returning by 9:30–10:00 AM to a full hot breakfast at your stay.
Evening safari. Pickup around 2:30 PM for a 3:00 PM gate entry. You'll drive until closing — approximately 6:00 PM in winter, 6:30 in summer. Dinner is served at your stay after return.
What to bring. Layered clothing (cold mornings, hot afternoons — even in summer, gypsy wind chills a pre-sunrise start). Full-length sleeves and trousers in muted colours. A wide-brim hat, sunscreen, binoculars, camera with your longest lens, and plenty of water. Devada guides carry basic first aid; your stay will pack a light breakfast box on request for morning drives.
