Chandrapur-Side Buffer · Pangadi–Zari Zone

Pangadi Aswal Chuha:
the buffer where
tigers actually live.

The best-kept buffer gate in the Chandrapur-side complex. Resident territory for males Mama and Jr. Mogli, tigresses Ladli, Morni, and K-mark with her two cubs — the reason our founder's own photographs come from here.

The Gate at a Glance

This is where
we shoot.

The Pangadi-Zari zone sits on the western side of Tadoba's Chandrapur buffer — separated from the Moharli cluster geographically, and honestly, in tiger density it outperforms most of what the more famous gates offer. This is the territory of Mama, a large male known to guides as the calmest tiger in this section of the reserve. He coexists here with Jr. Mogli — another male — without the fatal territorial fights that usually keep two adult males apart. That coexistence tells you something about how much prey this stretch holds.

On the tigress side, Ladli, Morni, and K-mark each hold territory here. K-mark currently has two cubs. Almost all of the photographs on our homepage that we didn't credit to Ranveer or Jatin came from this gate. When we say buffer beats core for sightings, this is the specific place we mean.

The gate is roughly 65 km from Chandrapur and about 180 km from Nagpur — the longest transfer of any Chandrapur-side buffer gate, but the sighting rate justifies it. Aswal Chuha translates roughly as 'sloth bear pit,' referring to the terrain feature that gives the gate its full name. Sloth bear sightings do happen here.

Why Choose Junona

What makes this gate
work.

1. Named resident tigers, not lucky sightings

Mama, Jr. Mogli, Ladli, Morni, and K-mark with cubs — five known tigers holding territory here means sighting rates that aren't dependent on lucky corridor crossings.

2. Two males coexisting peacefully

Mama and Jr. Mogli share ranges without lethal fights, which is unusual. It's a signal of exceptionally high prey density.

3. Sloth bear + tiger in one drive

The 'aswal chuha' terrain gives a real chance of both. Very few Tadoba gates offer this combination.

4. Where our founder actually shoots

Bhargav's own portfolio work comes from here. We book this gate because we know it, not because a guidebook mentioned it.

When to Go

Best months at Pangadi Aswal Chuha.

Sighting probability is a function of heat and water. As Chandrapur dries out, tigers concentrate at fewer waterholes, and the buffer's smaller water sources make sightings around them more reliable than in the rain-fed core.
