Mamla is the quietest of the Moharli-cluster gates. Its section of the buffer is denser — evergreen patches interspersed with small clearings — and the vehicle count per slot is lower than any of the other four Moharli-cluster gates. For anyone who's done three Tadoba trips and is tired of the highway of gypsies at Moharli core, Mamla is the fix.
The gate is around 50 km from Chandrapur and roughly 165 km from Nagpur. Terrain rewards patience — the dense evergreen means sightings develop through sound and movement rather than long-distance spotting. Which is exactly how experienced wildlifers say a safari should feel.
Fewer gypsies per safari slot than any other Moharli-cluster gate. Sightings hold longer because nobody's queuing behind you.

Sighting probability is a function of heat and water. As Chandrapur dries out, tigers concentrate at fewer waterholes, and the buffer's smaller water sources make sightings around them more reliable than in the rain-fed core.

Morning safari. Pickup from your Chandrapur or Moharli-area stay 45 minutes before gate opening. Mamla gate opens with sunrise — around 6:00 AM in winter, closer to 5:30 in summer. The drive lasts approximately 3 to 3.5 hours, returning by 9:30–10:00 AM to a full hot breakfast at your stay.
Evening safari. Pickup around 2:30 PM for a 3:00 PM gate entry. You'll drive until closing — approximately 6:00 PM in winter, 6:30 in summer. Dinner is served at your stay after return.
What to bring. Layered clothing (cold mornings, hot afternoons — even in summer, gypsy wind chills a pre-sunrise start). Full-length sleeves and trousers in muted colours. A wide-brim hat, sunscreen, binoculars, camera with your longest lens, and plenty of water. Mamla guides carry basic first aid; your stay will pack a light breakfast box on request for morning drives.
